Τεκμήριο Science Education Standards: a new approach(2011-08) Bezergiannidou, C.; Balouktsis, A.; Theodoridou-Sotiriou, LilaThe science education standards provide criteria for judging the performance of the components of the science education system responsible for providing schools with necessary financial and intellectual resources. In the education system, the school is the central institution for public education. The school includes many components that interact, for example, teaching, administration, and finance. The primary function of the science education is to supply society with scientifically literate citizens. Information and resources (typically financial) energize the system. The nature of the information, the magnitude of resources, and the paths along which they flow are directed by policies that are contained in instruments such as legislation, judicial rulings, and budgets. Components of the science education that have a major influence on teacher certification fit into four categories: (1) professional societies, (2) program-accrediting agencies, (3) government agencies, and (4) institutions of higher education operating within and across national, state, and local levels. The importance of standards does not imply that all teachers should pursue a single approach to teaching science. Teachers need to use many different strategies to develop the understandings and abilities This paper presents what students should understand and be able to do, how students should be taught, and means for assessing students' understandings, abilities, and dispositions in science. Also, it approaches an educational system in which all students demonstrate high levels of performance, in which teachers are empowered to make the decisions essential for effective learning, in which interlocking communities of teachers and students are focused on learning science, and in which supportive educational programs and systems nurture achievement. Finally, this paper compares features in common and standards across the countries of the EU and gives the differences between countries in terms of the intended curriculum and the assessment used.Τεκμήριο Sizing stand-alone photovoltaic systems(2005) Balouktsis, A.; Karapantsios, T. D.; Antoniadis, A.; Paschaloudis, D.; Bezergiannidou, A.; Bilalis, N.A method of sizing stand-alone photovoltaic systems regarding the reliability to satisfy the load demand, economy of components, and discharge depth exploited by the batteries is presented in this work. Solar radiation data simulated by an appropriate stochastic time series model, and not actual measurements, are used in the sizing procedure. This offers two distinct advantages: (a) sizing can be performed even for locations where no actual data exist, (b) the influence of the variation of the statistical parameters of solar radiation in sizing can be examined. The method has been applied and tested for several representative locations all over Greece for which monthly daily average values of solar radiation are given by ELOT (Hellenic Organization of Standardization).Τεκμήριο Wear of cutting tools used in milling treatments(2011) Anthymidis, K. G.; Balouktsis, A.; David, K.; Trakali, A.The usage of Computer Numerical Controlled Machines has been generalized over the last decades due to the increased demands for the production of mechanical parts with précised dimensions, higher production rates and products with better treated surface quality. It is well known that the duration of life of a cutting tool is one of the most important parameters during the cutting of metal parts, because it affects the cost of the manufacturing process substantially. Therefore, it is important to know accurately, the relation between the duration of life of the cutting tool and the conditions of the machinery such as cutting velocity, feed rate (fz), the depth of cut (radial and axial) etc. The purpose of this research is to conduct a proper number of cutting experiments in milling, measuring the wear of the cutting tools, in order to conclude in a mathematical model the wear cutting tool. This model can be implemented for the prediction of the cutting tool life, which is very important for the determination of the best cutting conditions. From the experimental diagrams we can come to conclusions for the course of the wear of the cutting tool in connection with the velocity of cutting, for the machinability of the materials used etc. The wear of the used cutting tools was determined by means of optical microscopy and stereoscopy.
