Τεκμήριο Customer Satisfaction Evaluation in the Tourism Industry. A Case Study of Chania(2007-01) Mavrommati, Athanasia; Karakitsiou, Athanasia; Migdalas, AthanasiosThe objective of the current study is to measure tourist satisfaction with the Greek tourism industry. As yet, very little research has been carried out in this area. MUSA (MUlticriteria Satisfaction Analysis) a multicriteria preference disaggregation method, is applied in order to measure tourists’ satisfaction with the popular visited Greek tourist destination of Chania. MUSA aggregates the individual preferences of a group of people (customer, employees, etc.) to a quantitative value function based on the system of values and preferences of this group. The study is, in particular, aimed to shed light on one of the satisfaction dimensions, namely the infrastructure of the area. The latter is a critical aspect concerning the perceived satisfaction level, but one that has been analyzed only to a small extent in the tourism literature. The findings of this research indeed reveal that first priority should be given to improvement in the infrastructure of the Chania prefecture. On the other hand, accommodation and catering facilities are found to be the region’s competitive advantages.Τεκμήριο Efficiency Measurement and Evaluation of the Greek hotel industry(2007) Karakitsiou, Athanasia; Mavrommati, Athanasia; Migdalas, Athanasios; Tsiakali, KonstantinaThe objective of the study is to derive an efficiency measurement and evaluation for the Greek Hotel Industry. Efficiency measurement of the hotel industry and the development of robust tools for the evaluation of this efficiency have been attracted the interest of many scientists from different fields of study (management, economy, etc) for many years. Nevertheless very little work has been carried out according to the efficient frontier methods and no studies have been conducted with reference to Greece. The current study measures efficiency based on one of the most promising techniques for hotel efficiency measurement, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), first introduced by Charnes et al. (1978). It is a non-parametric tool which measures efficiency according to frontiers (envelop theorem) using multiple inputs and outputs. This robust technique takes into consideration the specific characteristics of the hospitality industry, which are the multiple inputs and outputs of the hotel production process (mix and nature of provided services). Data have been gathered for 532 hotels from all over Greece (Crete, Cyclades, Peloponnese, Epirus, Ionian Islands, Macedonia-Thrace, Aegean Islands, Thessaly-Sporades, Sterea Ellada), for four hotel categories (Luxury, A',B', and C') and the years 1997-2003. Efficiency is measured for the total sector as well as for each area, for each year and category. Moreover the change of efficiency throughout the 7 years is also calculated. Results indicate that Sterea Ellada (mainly Attiki), Dodecanese and Thessaly-Sporades are the most efficient areas.Τεκμήριο Efficient minimization over products of simplices and its application to nonlinear multicommodity network problems(2004) Karakitsiou, Athanasia; Mavrommati, Athanasia; Migdalas, AthanasiosMany problems in portfolio selection, in traffic planning and in computer communication networks can be formulated as nonlinear problems involving minimization of a nonlinear function over simplices. Based on the concepts of regularization and partial linearization, we propose an efficient solution technique for such programs, prove its global convergence and discuss the possibilities for parallel implementation. We provide, as an application, an algorithm for traffic assignment which outperforms previous state-of-the-art codes.
