Τεκμήριο Application of optimal control in man power planning(2010-02-01) Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-MariaMany techniques are met in the literature (see for instance Bartholomew and Forbes (Statistical Techniques for Manpower Planning. wiley, New York 1979); Gunz (Organiz. Stud. 9(4), 529–554, 1988); Becker and Huselid (Human Resour. Manage. 38, 287–301, 1999); Wagner et al. (J. Manage. Med. 14(5/6), 383–405, 2000); Harris and Ogbonna (J. Business Res. 51, 157–166, 2001); Rogg et al. (J. Manage. 27, 431–449, 2001), among others), for planning the manpower resources. However, we haven’t seen in the literature an empirical study regarding the proper application of optimal control, which considered to be the most efficient method for multi-objective programming. With this in mind, we analyse in this paper the way of applying optimal control for manpower planning. For this purpose, and in order to facilitate the presentation, we first adopted a comparatively simple dynamic system (plant), with analytical presentation of stocks and flows. Next we proceed to the formulation of an optimal control problem, aiming to achieve in the most satisfactory way some preassigned targets. These targets mainly refer to a desirable trajectory of the plant stocks over time, in order to fully satisfy the needs for human resources over the planning horizon. Finally we present a method of solution of the formulated control problem which is based on the use of the generalized inverse Lazaridis (Qual. Quan. 120, 297–306, 1986). We believe that it is very important for successful management, that the policy makers have to know the effect of their polices and to determine the optimal path of the state variables (i.e. the ones describing the system) before the realization of the plan, so as to be able to reform their strategies, reallocate the resources and arrange the infrastructure accordingly, if all these are necessary, as it can be depicted from the optimal control solution.Τεκμήριο The effect of the economic cycle on workplace accidents in six european countries(2010-01-13) Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-Maria; Targoutzidis, AntonisThe aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of the economic cycle on workplace accidents. In particular, the effect of some major factors of the economic cycle (unemployment, output per capita and unit labor cost) on fatal and non-fatal injuries is examined in six European countries (Finland, Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany). Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis are applied, considering relevant data of the selected countries, over the period 1990-2005. The analysis indicates a counter-cyclical behavior of workplace accidents. Output per capita is the only parameter whose impact is statistically significant in all cases. The different effect of the examined factors on workplace accidents and the inter-relations between these factors indicate that an economic model of the workplace is required, if the impact of the economic cycle on workplace accidents is to be studied thoroughly.Τεκμήριο The impact of the economic cycle on fatal injuries. The case of UK 1971–2007(2012-06-07) Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-Maria; Targoutzidis, AntonisThe aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of the economic cycle on workplace accidents. In particular, the effect of the usual factors of the economic cycle (GDP per capita, Unemployment) is examined along with the effect of working hours (to account for flexible employment) on fatal injuries (to exclude the effect of under-reporting data) for the period 1971–2007 in UK. Detailed multiple regression analysis is applied, which indicates a controversial and inelastic relation of GDP per capita (negative) and unemployment rate (positive), but also an elastic relation of working hours (positive) to fatal injuries. Further research in data of various countries is proposed before arriving to certain conclusions.Τεκμήριο Job analysis of academic librarians in Greece: Investigating differences among institutions regarding obligations and responsibilities(2016) Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-Maria; Grigoriadou, Sofia P.The purpose of this paper is to identify the obligations and responsibilities of librarians, working in Greek academic libraries and to investigate whether there are significant differences among various institutions. The survey was based on a questionnaire containing 161 duties performed by academic librarians, classified into five main categories which are: general management, collection management, materials organization, user service and system management. The respondents were 31 managers at Greek academic libraries, who were asked to assess their duties according to importance, difficulty and frequency, and whether such tasks were deemed professional, para-professional or non-professional. A two-way ANOVA was applied to determine whether performed duties significantly differed according to institution size and/or type. The results revealed no significant differences regarding importance of duties while many differences were detected across all main categories regarding difficulty. Differences were also recorded concerning the frequency of duties for some of the subcategories under general and collection management, materials organization and the subcategory cultural events and programs. Finally, professional duties represented 86 percent of total duties, indicating the necessity of professional librarians for the effective management of their responsibilities. These findings, which are first recorded in Greece and refer to academic librarians’ duties, will be particularly useful for decision makers to reach the right decisions regarding the implementation of human resource practices, taking into account the individuality of the institutions under consideration. Also these outcomes can be viewed as a valuable guide for adapting the indicated decisions under the rapidly introduced technological changes and properly tackling problems stemming from the economic recession.Τεκμήριο Testing the effect of specific socioeconomic factors on the ischemic mortality rate. The case of Greece(2008-01) Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-MariaIn this paper we present a model to evaluate the effect of certain majors socioeconomic factors (such as alcohol and fat consumption, cigarettes smoking, unemployment rate as a proxy for uncertainty which results frustration, number of passenger cars as a proxy for physical exercise and per capita GDP as a proxy for nutrition quality), to the ischemic mortality rate. Since the existing research works on this field, suffer from the proper model testing, we analytically present all the tests necessary to justify the reliability of the result obtained. For this purpose, after specifying and estimating the model, we applied the specification error test, the linearity, multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity tests, the autocorrelation and stability tests and the ARCH effect test. Finally, we present the aggregate efect of the above socioeconomic factors. In brief, we found that an increase of cigarettes smoked, of fat and alcohol consumption and the number of passenger cars will result to a relevant increase regarding mortality. The latter one is also affected by the changes in unemployment rate. On the other hand, an increase of personal disposable income may negatively affect mortality, by almost the same portion.Τεκμήριο Training and appraisal performance of staff in the hotel industry(Τ.Ε.Ι. Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας, 2019-04) Basiou, Anna-Maria; Μπάσιου, Άννα-Μαρία; Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-Maria; Μουζά-Λαζαρίδη, Άννα-Μαρία; Σχολή Διοίκησης και Οικονομίας, Τμήμα Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων; MBA in Hospitality & TourismThe purpose of this study is the staff training in the tourism industry. Initially there is an introduction that concerns the tourism sector in Greece in general and its contribution to the economy. The study consists of five chapters. The first refers to the importance of the training of staff in hotels, the methods used and the way in which they are implemented. The second chapter deals with staff evaluation, its importance and the ways in which it is carried out. The third chapter refers to other research and its results. The fourth explains how the investigation was conducted. This is a quantitative survey with a questionnaire by means of a nineteen (19) questions. The fifth chapter is the analytical presentation of the results through graphs for each question individually and given the conclusions of the investigation.Τεκμήριο Training methods for law Enforcement officers(Τ.Ε.Ι. Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας, 2019-04) Stoikoudis, Nikolaos; Στοϊκούδης, Νικόλαος; Mouza-Lazaridi, Anna-Maria; Μουζά-Λαζαρίδη, Άννα-Μαρία; Σχολή Διοίκησης και Οικονομίας, Τμήμα Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων; MBA in Hospitality & TourismThis thesis represents analyses of past studies on police training. The current research is focused on training methods applied on law enforcement officers. It aims at investing the training methods that police departments use in order to train their personnel. Many studies are concerned with police training which took part in various countries. From those, 51 of them were selected as more representatives. Most of the articles are referred to training programs implemented in the USA, all of them preferred on-the-job training that was applied to officers and the duration varied from few hours to many years. The evolution of training methods and especially those applied on law enforcement officers necessitates the implementation of further research.
