heal.abstractThis dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University. The main goal was to create something that can contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage. A support structure for an ancient amphora-type vase was created. Missing parts of the vase made impossible for it to be stable at its natural position. Reverse engineering technology was used to extract information of the vase’s geometry and design a creative and effective support structure. The proposed solution is a base that has the shape of the external surf ace missing geometry of the vase. Research conducted on existing bases for archeological artifacts and contribution of reverse engineering in archeology field served as source of inspiration and led to the caption of the proposed design idea. After the design process, a prototype was printed using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The material used was Polylactic Acid (PLA). Mechanical test conducted before printing to acquire mechanical properties of PLA and perform static analysis simulations. All the steps followed are described in the next chapters.en
