This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University. The present dissertation aims to explore how ergonomics can be applied to design a passenger ship’s interior. This project is expected to propose a layout that could be used in real time and be implemented in a real ship. The design proposal is focused on providing the best possible solution which satisfies the most requirements in the best possible way. The design layout is also addressed to people with special needs. The paper starts with a literature review of ergonomics, anthropometrics, application of percentiles in design, ergonomics in public transportation, interior design, 3d visualization and virtual reality. The next part describes the methodology that was used for the ship interior, to be ergonomically designed. Subsequently, three alternative plans are presented when finally the best one is selected for 3D modeling and rendering. The final proposal renderings’ are presented. Finally, conclusions and further exploration of the project are expounded.
