heal.abstract | In an era characterized by rapid technological advancements, the tourism industry has undergone a profound transformation, necessitating a shift towards the digital landscape. This dissertation delves into the critical aspects of digital skills within the context of tourism in Europe, with a specific focus on Greece. The first subject delves into the digital skills necessary in the tourism business. Because online interactions are rapidly dominating the globe, tourism professionals must be trained with a diverse set of digital skills. This study defines and evaluates these skills, focusing on their importance in allowing organizations to remain competitive, reach a broader audience, and create better customer experiences. The second subject looks at the European Union's (EU) digital skills framework, which was created to standardize the above digital skills across member states. The EU recognizes the importance of digitalization in various sectors, including tourism. By outlining the EU's digital skills framework, this research elucidates the standards and benchmarks set forth by the union to ensure a harmonized approach to the digital skills required within the tourism industry. Third, this study evaluates the role of education in nurturing and advancing digital skills within the tourism industry. It highlights the importance and contribution of education in preparing the workforce for the digital demands of the tourism industry and hospitality. Lastly, it examines the specific initiatives and education courses adopted by Greece to enhance the required digital skills. As a renowned tourist destination, Greece faces unique challenges and opportunities in aligning its tourism industry with the digital age. We explore the bachelor and master degree programs made by Greece for digital skills to remain competitive on the global stage. In conclusion, this dissertation ultimately provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of digital skills in the tourism industry, with Greece as a case study. By examining digital trends, EU initiatives, Greeks, and educational factors, it offers a comprehensive perspective on the digital transformation journey of one of Europe's most prominent tourist destinations. | en |
