New technologies during the 4th industrial revolution redefine the way people communicate with and interpret cultural heritage artefacts. This project focuses on the educational value of such technologies -in particular reverse engineering, augmented reality, and virtual reality. More specifically, the objective of this study is to investigate the connection between encompassing practices from the fields of 3D printing, AR, and VR and the increment on certain museum visitors engagement and subsequent learning indicators. To do so, 3D models, physical and digital replicas of particular exhibits of the Diachronic Museum of Larissa were integrated in a museum education program. The program comprises a game-based scenario that involves students in exploration of the technological artefacts in relation to the history of the original objects. The research results show the role technology can play in this direction and raise some key issues on the effective application of these technologies in museum education projects.
