Τεκμήριο Cutting stock process optimisation in custom door and window manufacturing industry(2009) Dimitriadis, Sotirios; Kehris, EvangelosIn this paper we present a decision support system that has been developed to address the short-term scheduling and the medium-term planning decisions that need to be taken by companies operating in the custom door and window manufacturing industry. The modules of the proposed DSS are presented with an emphasis on the model module which implements variations of two well known cutting stock heuristic algorithms that have been modified to support the evaluation of alternative leftover handling policies. Real data obtained by a small Greek company were used for a 'what if' analysis using the proposed DSS. The results obtained, are of particular practical importance since they suggest that the gains achieved by new or improved cutting stock algorithms are in fact lower than the improvements achieved by utilising the leftover pieces.Τεκμήριο A Framework for Supporting Creative Thinking in Concept Mapping(2014) Giouvanakis, Thanasis; Kehris, Evangelos; Samara, Haido; Mpakavos, StergiosIn this paper, we present a framework associated with the development of analytic and synthetic thinking that is also related to improving learner creativity. In this framework, the whole concept map is treated as a structure, the characteristics of which the learner has to learn to improve, similarly every proposition is treated as an entity, the characteristics of which express the creativity of the learner.Τεκμήριο Identifying Core Issues in Concept Maps(2013) Giouvanakis, Thanasis; Kehris, Evangelos; Mpakavos, Asterios; Samaras, Haido; Tsourela, MariaPreliminary informal investigations carried out by our research group suggest that concept maps often contain a small number of identifiable core issues. Studying several concept maps which were referred to in various sources as typical examples of maps which were created by experts and novices, the result remains strikingly the same: The higher the expertise of the person who created the map, the easier the identification of these core issues seems to be. In this paper we attempt to formally investigate this statement. More specifically, in this paper we study two hypotheses: (a) concept maps are built around a small number of core issues and (b) core issues may be identified by human evaluators and specialized software. These hypotheses are investigated by examining 45 concept maps from various fields developed by novices or experts.Τεκμήριο Service Quality Assessment in higher education: the case of Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Serres, Greece(2005) Zafiropoulos, Costas; Frangidis, Garyfallos; Kehris, Evangelos; Dimitriadis, Sotirios G.; Paschaloudis, DimirisEducation service quality has become a major issue in higher education worldwide. In Greece it is beginning to gain attention in the last few years, mainly because it is an integral part of EU-funded programmes granted to the academic institutions. This paper presents students’ perceptions of education service quality as experienced at a higher educational institute of Greece. The survey used the original SERVQUAL questionnaire, in which only language adjustment was made, in order to fit in the academic environment. The results provide evidence that SERVQUAL can partially be used to record and attribute students satisfaction for major educational issues.
