This dissertation conducts a comprehensive examination of startup competitions and hackathons during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a specific focus on Greece. It intricately explores the use and effectiveness of various dissemination platforms utilized during this period, and the innovative practices that emerged in response to the pandemic. The research aims to document and analyze the profound impacts these initiatives had on the entrepreneurial ecosystem, highlighting the creative solutions that surfaced to promote entrepreneurship and innovation amidst unprecedented challenges. A significant part of the study is dedicated to understanding how these platforms and competitions facilitated economic recovery and social cohesion, particularly through fostering collaborative networks and leveraging new technologies. The dissertation presents detailed case studies of organized and completed hackathon projects in Greece, offering insights into their goals, organization, outcomes, and overall effectiveness. The findings emphasize the need for continuous development and optimization of these platforms, not only to bolster entrepreneurial activities but also to ensure a resilient and sustainable economic recovery in a post-pandemic world.
